Sustainability

From its earliest days, the Marbella Club has been guided by an appreciation of the interconnectedness of things: from treasuring family relationships and respecting the traditional way of life, to preserving our unique microclimate.
Wholeheartedly dedicated to making a positive impact, supporting our local community, and adding a touch of charm to the world, our focus lies on preserving and regenerating the environment for a sustainable, brighter future.

The Marbella Club is now FORBES VERIFIED™ Responsible Hospitality, a prestigious recognition of our commitment to sustainability. From food waste reduction with LEANPATH and smart energy monitoring to regenerative agriculture at Finca Ana María, we aim to shape our circular environment, from employee engagement to the guest experience. We also support biodiversity restoration with ClientEarth and SEAHORSEMED, and social initiatives with ANIDE, Cáritas, and Adintre. This achievement reflects our shared dedication to a better future.

Our team is working on community and conservation projects. Discover #MCForChange.

Marbella Club has received an A energy rating in accordance with Royal Decree 390/2021.

Butterfly Mark Certification

In March 2024, the Marbella Club achieved the coveted Butterfly Mark certification from Positive Luxury, earning one of the highest scores in the industry.
Led by our Director of Sustainability, Leigh Barrett, the hotel has undergone a three-year process including a comprehensive assessment and framework for change, built on the foundation of international agreements, global standards, and potential upcoming legislation.

In order to achieve the Butterfly Mark, companies must achieve a minimum of 50% in each area of assessment: Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG). Marbella Club achieved 77% in Environment, 76% in Social and 80% in Governance, excelling in the following areas:

Biodiversity
Alongside Aula del Mar, we actively support the conservation of the native seahorse.

Climate
We have transitioned to 100% renewable energy. Prioritising local products in our supply chains, investing in energy-efficient construction materials, and implementing circular economy projects have helped us reduce our global carbon footprint by 62% and our emissions to 18 kg of CO2/employee.

Waste Reduction and Water Consumption
Implementation of policies focused on reduction, recycling, reuse, repair, and recovery throughout the organization. With a goal of 5% annual reduction, your efforts have helped us achieve a 36% reduction in waste.

The Marbella Club joins a community of over 170 luxury sustainable brands, embedding measurable, sustainability practices across its business operations.
